As part of Kanaval: Haitian Rhythms and the Music of New Orleans, public radio station WXPN, in partnership with Ming Media, presents part 2 of a three part series, Nou La (We Are Here), a documentary celebrating the vibrant legacy of Haitian Americans in the city of Brotherly and Sisterly Love. The videos follow the journey of creative Haitians living in Philadelphia, who are artists, culinarians, and cultural workers. Directed by Romel Jean-Pierre, Nou La vividly illustrates how the culture of Haiti thrives through their crafts and lives.
“Nou La – Part 2” features interviews with artist and yoga instructor Jean Jacques, photographer Naomieh Jovin, and visual artist Claus Gabriel. Watch part 2 below.
Nou La was part of the City of Philadelphia’s Office of Immigrant Affairs month-long series of events in honor of national Immigrant Month 2021 and its theme, Celebrate Resilience.
Nou La was made possible with a grant from the Wyncote Foundation.
